Senator Win Gatchalian has filed a bill that aims to improve teacher education in the country through reforms in the Teacher Education Council (TEC).

Senator Win Gatchalian said that reports on consumer products with hazardous chemicals that continue to flood online platforms should set off alarm bells to concerned authorities.

Senator Win Gatchalian sounded the alarm on the low passing rates of the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) as he reiterated the need to improve the quality of teacher education and training in the country.

To prevent the uptick of COVID-19 cases now that teachers and non-teaching staff  are expected be out in the field to distribute modules or report to their respective schools,  Senator Win Gatchalian urged public school officials to strictly enforce the Department of Education’s (DepEd) alternative work arrangements and health protocols to make teachers and personnel less vulnerable to infection.

Senator Win Gatchalian has called for a Senate inquiry on the issues surrounding the looming expiration of Service Contract (SC) 38 or the Malampaya Deep Water Gas-To-Power Project given its critical role in the country’s energy security.

Though around 59 percent of more than 22 million learners enrolled in public schools are using printed self-learning modules (SLMs) for distance learning, Senator Win Gatchalian said that learning through television-based instruction is a big help in teaching more difficult and complicated subjects.

Senator Win Gatchalian called on the Department of Energy (DOE) to immediately act on all pending solar project applications emphasizing that a mechanism is already in place that streamlines the permitting process for both foreign and domestic investors.

Senator Win Gatchalian urged the Department of Energy (DOE) to focus on meeting the necessary steps in the adoption of a national nuclear energy policy before working on the possible utilization of the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP).

Senator Win Gatchalian called on the Department of Energy (DOE) to consider studying the case of Vietnam in pursuing nuclear power plants before venturing on the revival of the mothballed Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP).
